Novel Methods of Green Mosquito Control

Every year, we eagerly anticipate spring rain and warmer temperatures to enliven our landscapes with seasonal color and enjoy our outdoor living spaces again. However, certain uninvited guests prevail with a vengeance once the humidity rises: mosquitos. These pesky pests not only bring irritating bites, but they can also transmit serious diseases like Yellow Fever, Zika, Dengue, and Chikungunya. Not only are chemical insecticides bad for the environment, but over time, mosquitos can develop a resistance to them. At Bonick, we aim to stay at the forefront of our industry in all areas, including mosquito control. Recently, we discovered an effective, environmentally-friendly way to help combat mosquitos to keep our clients healthy and comfortable. This spring, we’re offering it as a new service option. See the In2Care® Mosquito Station in action and learn how installing these green, new tech traps can create a more enjoyable environment this summer.

How do In2Care® Mosquito Stations Work?

In short, this innovative mosquito bait station weaponizes the mosquito itself against its own species. A dissolving tablet produces an odor that lures the female mosquito to the trap. When she lands, the station’s clever technology causes two EPA-approved biocides to combine into a bug-annihilating brew.

Green Mosquito Control

Serving as an alluring host breeding site, a female mosquito perches upon the bait station’s floater gauze to unwittingly lay her eggs in biocide. Once the floater is disturbed, it binds a growth regulator that kills the mosquito larvae with a biological fungus. As the mosquito flies away in search of other breeding locations, she contaminates other sites with the biocide, preventing virus development. Over a few days, the biocide kills the mosquito before she is capable of transmitting diseases. These mosquito traps not only obliterate your run-of-the-mill mosquitos, but they also destroy insecticide-resistant, disease-carrying Aedes and Culex mosquitos. However, while the dosage is large enough to deploy to mosquitoes, it’s small enough that it does not cause harm to any surrounding fish or mammals.
